I have already seen so many kids as young as two years old play with their parents’ tablets. Not the throwing and eating the tablet kind of play, but really play the games installed in it. Yes, it is impressive in a way but I think growing up getting addicted to video games is not the best for a child’s well-being.
Indeed the toys played by the older generations were way simpler but it brought out more interaction and imagination. One example is the play dough – a simple thing to play with but helps a lot in a child’s overall development. The kids nowadays may find clays boring, but with this DIY night sky play dough I don’t think they can resist playing it. Now is your chance to get your kids’ attention away from those tablets!
Materials:
- measuring cup
- saucepan
- wax paper
- 1 cup of flour
- 1 cup of water
- 1/3 cup of salt
- 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon of unflavoured gelatin
- Black liquid watercolours
- lots of glitters (blue, white, silver, gold)
Steps:
1. Fill your 7/8 of your measuring cup with water and add the watercolours.
2. Pour the mixture in a medium saucepan and then sprinkle the gelatin powder. Turn up the heat to high and stir mixture until the gelatin is dissolved.
3. Adjust the heat to low and add the other ingredients except the glitters. Then turn heat to medium stirring constantly for about a minute until you get a dough which is beginning to form a large clump around your spoon.
4. Turn off the heat and transfer the dough to onto a wax paper to cool.
5. When it has cooled down sprinkle and knead glitters until you get the look of the night sky.
