Scripture of the Day: Isaiah 54 - God's Promises to me

Isaiah 54

These are God's promises to us. They are YEA and AMEN! (2 Corinthians 1:20)

1 Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the Lord.

2 Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes;

3 For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited.

4 Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more.

5 For thy Maker is thine husband; the Lord of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.

6 For the Lord hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God.

7 For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee.

8 In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the Lord thy Redeemer.

9 For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee.

10 For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee.

11 O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colours, and lay thy foundations with sapphires.

12 And I will make thy windows of agates, and thy gates of carbuncles, and all thy borders of pleasant stones.

13 And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children.

14 In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.

15 Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake.

16 Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.

17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.

When you find yourself Backsliding

We all backslide sometimes. Just because we are Christians, it doesn't mean we are not human. It does not mean we do not make mistakes and stumble along the way. Our journey in life will not always be smooth sailing. Sometimes we will backslide. For some people, they backslide when all is going well in their lives. They forget it is God that has placed them in such a state of happiness and peace. For others it could be the complete opposite. When things are not going quite the way they expected. They pray and they feel God is not hearing them or God is not answering them and turning their situation around immediately.

When we find ourselves backsliding in our faith, we need to do a complete U-turn and come back to God.

Here are a few tips I found we can use as Christians to avoid backsliding in our faith.

10 Steps to Avoid Backsliding as a Christian

The Christian life is not always an easy road. Sometimes we get off track. The Bible says to encourage your brothers and sisters in Christ daily so that no one turns away from the living God. If you have found yourself backsliding, or drifting away from the Lord, these practical steps will help get you back on course today.

Time Required: A Lifetime
Here's How:
  1. Examine your faith-life regularly. Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?
    2 Corinthians 13:5
    (NIV)
  2. If you find yourself drifting away, turn back immediately. See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. Hebrews 3:12-13 (NIV)
  3. Come to God daily for forgiveness and cleansing. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
    1 John 1:9
    (NIV)
Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.
    Revelation 22:14
    (NIV)
  4. Continue daily seeking the Lord with your whole heart. And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.
    I Chronicles 28:9
    (NIV)
  5. Stay in the Word of God; keep studying and learning daily. Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life.
    Proverbs 4:13
    (NIV)
  6. Stay in fellowship often with other believers. You can’t make it alone as a Christian. We need the strength and prayers of other believers. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage and warn each other, especially now that the day of his coming back again is drawing near.
    Hebrews 10:25
    (NLT)
  7. Stand firm in your faith. Expect difficult times in your Christian life. All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.
    Matthew 10:22
    (NIV)
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
    Galatians 5:1
    (NIV)
  8. Persevere. Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.
    1 Timothy 4:15-17
    (NIV)
  9. Run the race to win. Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training ... we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
    1 Corinthians 9: 24-25
    (NIV)
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness...
    2 Timothy 4:7-8
    (NIV)
  10. Remind yourself of what God has done for you in the past. Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering. So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised … we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.
    Hebrews 10: 32, 35-39
    (NIV)
Tips:
  1. Develop a daily habit of spending time with God. Habits are hard to break.
  2. Memorize favourite Bible verses to recall in difficult times.
  3. Listen to Christian music to keep your mind and heart in tune with God.
  4. Develop a Christian friendship so that you'll have someone to call when you feel weak.
  5. Get involved in a meaningful project with other Christians.

    Powerful, Loving, And Sound .

    Wednesday, July 30th .
    Pastor Anita

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).

As Christians, we have an extraordinary amplitude of comprehension because the wisdom of God is in our spirits. Our minds are anointed to produce excellence. We’ve also been anointed with the Holy Spirit and with power, and the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts (Romans 5:5). All these are by the Holy Spirit. He has made you powerful, loving and sound. What an excellent life!

Some people are powerful, but not loving. For us Christians, these three qualities are complete. Acts 1:8 says, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you….” Every Christian who has received the Holy Spirit has received power, because the Holy Spirit is the power of God. 1 John 4:4 says, “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” The One who resides in you is greater and more powerful than all the forces in the world! Therefore, be bold to say, “…truly I am full of power by the spirit of the LORD…” (Micah 3:8).

The same Holy Spirit has caused the love of God to be shed abroad in your heart. It’s natural for you to walk in love, because love is the life of the new creation. The Bible says God is love (1 John 4:8); and as He is, so are you (1 John 4:17).

Declare always that you’re full of power, love, and have a sound mind; and use your sound mind for excellence in all you do.

    CONFESSION

I’m excellent, full of power, love and the glory of God. I walk in righteousness and manifest the dominion of the Spirit. The virtues and perfections of divinity are expressed through me today, in the Name of Jesus. Amen.

    Further Study: Proverbs 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. ;

1 John 2:20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

    Cambridge Weight Plan

I would gladly offer myself up as a guinea pig for any thing that would help me lose weight FAST!

Like many adults and/or mums out there, I have gradually put on weight and watched myself balloon from a perfect size 8 to a size 14 borderline 16 (in 7 years)! Although it is not so obvious from the waist up, it is problematic and I am ever willing to conqueror this issue FAST!

I must admit, I like the easy way out. However I cannot stress enough the importance of a healthy lifestyle. I would encourage anyone/everyone to eat clean. Eat healthy food and exercise regularly.  There is no quick fix, but there is a quick start!

Every now and then, I relax, I get comfortable, I get happy. I eat what appeases me without thinking about the consequences. What is that saying again "a moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips? Yes, that has been my reality. Unfortunately, when you get used to something, it becomes a habit and then your habit becomes an addiction. You find yourself eating things you know are wrong and not good for you. You ignore your gut instinct. Most times, you go out of your way to fund your food addiction. Sometimes even turn to secret eaters. You eat alone where no one can see you eating that chocolate cake.

In the past I have tried the tablets (which I cannot commit to because it only makes me sick. I don't even take paracetamol when I have a migraine so medicine on a daily basis is also known as punishment -in my head). I have also tried exercising but exercising is hard when you are a full time working mum. No time. I do try walking. Walking is good. Walking helps a lot.  But one thing I have learned to understand is, no matter how much you walk or run or exercise or pop diet pills, if your eating habits are wrong, you will rarely see the difference. With all your exercising, you might just turn your fat into muscle, but that is not reducing your weight. There are people that are not fat, but they are big (i.e. the Rock). You can't dare call him a fat man because he is tall and built. Big in nature. Definitely not slim. Or Serena Williams, another typical example. I do not know her eating habits but she is built and muscular. Not fat and not slim. I want to be slim, although I do not want to lose my natural God-given curves.

So, one day, whilst walking to work from my train station, I walked passed a shop and saw an advert on the window. I went into the shop, made enquiries, went online to read and educate myself more, asked a few friends and they recommended it. The last thing I wanted was another fad diet that was impossible to stick to yet never works or only works for a few days and then we are back to square 0.

Cambridge Weight Plan is a Diet Plan I have chosen to follow because it is healthy. It is not starving yourself because your body will be taking in all the nutrients it needs to survive. It is all in the mind. So I have decided to take my mind, but a lock on it. Close my eyes to all the bad habits I have become accustomed to (i.e. eating everything sweet I set my eyes on) and follow this strict plan. Although it would be tough, I have been advised to mentally prepare myself so I don't lapse and return to the bad habits that got me to this size in the first place.

The good thing with the Plan is it not only helps kick-start your weight loss, it teaches you how to live a healthier lifestyle and make the right food choices.

You can get a lot more information from http://www.cambridgeweightplan.com/

You can get a selection of different plans and their food includes porridge, shakes, soups, chocolate bars etc. As I am not the adventurous type, I will stick to the shakes as there is more variety in that. It helps that the shakes are actually really yummy. So one shake for breakfast, one shake for lunch and one shake for dinner. Throughout the day, I will drink 3 litres of water. I will do this every day for 7 days, report back on my progress, take two days break and continue for another 7 days.

I usually need a goal/focus to motivate me, so the timing is just right. Firstly, its the Summer! What better excuse? Secondly, my husband's birthday is fast approaching and lastly, I have a wedding to attend on August 30th.

I think long term, I will follow the Philip Schofield 5:2 diet (which again, I will be your guinea pig), but for now, it is all about the Cambridge Weight Plan .....

    Wish me luck!

    RAISING AWARENESS: EBOLA

    Ebola virus disease

    Key facts

    • Ebola virus disease (EVD), formerly known as Ebola haemorrhagic fever, is a severe, often fatal illness in humans.
    • EVD outbreaks have a case fatality rate of up to 90%.
    • EVD outbreaks occur primarily in remote villages in Central and West Africa, near tropical rainforests.
    • The virus is transmitted to people from wild animals and spreads in the human population through human-to-human transmission.
    • Fruit bats of the Pteropodidae family are considered to be the natural host of the Ebola virus.
    • Severely ill patients require intensive supportive care. No licensed specific treatment or vaccine is available for use in people or animals.

Ebola first appeared in 1976 in 2 simultaneous outbreaks, in Nzara, Sudan, and in Yambuku, Democratic Republic of Congo. The latter was in a village situated near the Ebola River, from which the disease takes its name.
Genus Ebolavirus is 1 of 3 members of the Filoviridae family (filovirus), along with genus Marburgvirus and genus Cuevavirus. Genus Ebolavirus comprises 5 distinct species:
    • Bundibugyo ebolavirus (BDBV)
    • Zaire ebolavirus (EBOV)
    • Reston ebolavirus (RESTV)
    • Sudan ebolavirus (SUDV)
    • Taï Forest ebolavirus (TAFV).
BDBV, EBOV, and SUDV have been associated with large EVD outbreaks in Africa, whereas RESTV and TAFV have not. The RESTV species, found in Philippines and the People’s Republic of China, can infect humans, but no illness or death in humans from this species has been reported to date.

    Transmission

Ebola is introduced into the human population through close contact with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected animals. In Africa, infection has been documented through the handling of infected chimpanzees, gorillas, fruit bats, monkeys, forest antelope and porcupines found ill or dead or in the rainforest.
Ebola then spreads in the community through human-to-human transmission, with infection resulting from direct contact (through broken skin or mucous membranes) with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected people, and indirect contact with environments contaminated with such fluids. Burial ceremonies in which mourners have direct contact with the body of the deceased person can also play a role in the transmission of Ebola. Men who have recovered from the disease can still transmit the virus through their semen for up to 7 weeks after recovery from illness.
Health-care workers have frequently been infected while treating patients with suspected or confirmed EVD. This has occurred through close contact with patients when infection control precautions are not strictly practiced.
Among workers in contact with monkeys or pigs infected with Reston ebolavirus, several infections have been documented in people who were clinically asymptomatic. Thus, RESTV appears less capable of causing disease in humans than other Ebola species.
However, the only available evidence available comes from healthy adult males. It would be premature to extrapolate the health effects of the virus to all population groups, such as immuno-compromised persons, persons with underlying medical conditions, pregnant women and children. More studies of RESTV are needed before definitive conclusions can be drawn about the pathogenicity and virulence of this virus in humans.

    Signs and symptoms

EVD is a severe acute viral illness often characterized by the sudden onset of fever, intense weakness, muscle pain, headache and sore throat. This is followed by vomiting, diarrhoea, rash, impaired kidney and liver function, and in some cases, both internal and external bleeding. Laboratory findings include low white blood cell and platelet counts and elevated liver enzymes.
People are infectious as long as their blood and secretions contain the virus. Ebola virus was isolated from semen 61 days after onset of illness in a man who was infected in a laboratory.
The incubation period, that is, the time interval from infection with the virus to onset of symptoms, is 2 to 21 days.

    Diagnosis

Other diseases that should be ruled out before a diagnosis of EVD can be made include: malaria, typhoid fever, shigellosis, cholera, leptospirosis, plague, rickettsiosis, relapsing fever, meningitis, hepatitis and other viral haemorrhagic fevers.
Ebola virus infections can be diagnosed definitively in a laboratory through several types of tests:
    • antibody-capture enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)
    • antigen detection tests
    • serum neutralization test
    • reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assay
    • electron microscopy
    • virus isolation by cell culture.
Samples from patients are an extreme biohazard risk; testing should be conducted under maximum biological containment conditions.

    Vaccine and treatment

No licensed vaccine for EVD is available. Several vaccines are being tested, but none are available for clinical use.
Severely ill patients require intensive supportive care. Patients are frequently dehydrated and require oral rehydration with solutions containing electrolytes or intravenous fluids.
No specific treatment is available. New drug therapies are being evaluated.

    Natural host of Ebola virus

In Africa, fruit bats, particularly species of the genera Hypsignathus monstrosus, Epomops franqueti and Myonycteris torquata, are considered possible natural hosts for Ebola virus. As a result, the geographic distribution of Ebolaviruses may overlap with the range of the fruit bats.

    Ebola virus in animals

Although non-human primates have been a source of infection for humans, they are not thought to be the reservoir but rather an accidental host like human beings. Since 1994, Ebola outbreaks from the EBOV and TAFV species have been observed in chimpanzees and gorillas.
RESTV has caused severe EVD outbreaks in macaque monkeys (Macaca fascicularis) farmed in Philippines and detected in monkeys imported into the USA in 1989, 1990 and 1996, and in monkeys imported to Italy from Philippines in 1992.
Since 2008, RESTV viruses have been detected during several outbreaks of a deadly disease in pigs in People’s Republic of China and Philippines. Asymptomatic infection in pigs has been reported and experimental inoculations have shown that RESTV cannot cause disease in pigs.

    Prevention and control

Controlling Reston ebolavirus in domestic animals
No animal vaccine against RESTV is available. Routine cleaning and disinfection of pig or monkey farms (with sodium hypochlorite or other detergents) should be effective in inactivating the virus.
If an outbreak is suspected, the premises should be quarantined immediately. Culling of infected animals, with close supervision of burial or incineration of carcasses, may be necessary to reduce the risk of animal-to-human transmission. Restricting or banning the movement of animals from infected farms to other areas can reduce the spread of the disease.
As RESTV outbreaks in pigs and monkeys have preceded human infections, the establishment of an active animal health surveillance system to detect new cases is essential in providing early warning for veterinary and human public health authorities.
Reducing the risk of Ebola infection in people
In the absence of effective treatment and a human vaccine, raising awareness of the risk factors for Ebola infection and the protective measures individuals can take is the only way to reduce human infection and death.
In Africa, during EVD outbreaks, educational public health messages for risk reduction should focus on several factors:
    • Reducing the risk of wildlife-to-human transmission from contact with infected fruit bats or monkeys/apes and the consumption of their raw meat. Animals should be handled with gloves and other appropriate protective clothing. Animal products (blood and meat) should be thoroughly cooked before consumption.
    • Reducing the risk of human-to-human transmission in the community arising from direct or close contact with infected patients, particularly with their bodily fluids. Close physical contact with Ebola patients should be avoided. Gloves and appropriate personal protective equipment should be worn when taking care of ill patients at home. Regular hand washing is required after visiting patients in hospital, as well as after taking care of patients at home.
    • Communities affected by Ebola should inform the population about the nature of the disease and about outbreak containment measures, including burial of the dead. People who have died from Ebola should be promptly and safely buried.
Pig farms in Africa can play a role in the amplification of infection because of the presence of fruit bats on these farms. Appropriate biosecurity measures should be in place to limit transmission. For RESTV, educational public health messages should focus on reducing the risk of pig-to-human transmission as a result of unsafe animal husbandry and slaughtering practices, and unsafe consumption of fresh blood, raw milk or animal tissue. Gloves and other appropriate protective clothing should be worn when handling sick animals or their tissues and when slaughtering animals. In regions where RESTV has been reported in pigs, all animal products (blood, meat and milk) should be thoroughly cooked before eating.
    Controlling infection in health-care settings
Human-to-human transmission of the Ebola virus is primarily associated with direct or indirect contact with blood and body fluids. Transmission to health-care workers has been reported when appropriate infection control measures have not been observed.
It is not always possible to identify patients with EBV early because initial symptoms may be non-specific. For this reason, it is important that health-care workers apply standard precautions consistently with all patients – regardless of their diagnosis – in all work practices at all times. These include basic hand hygiene, respiratory hygiene, the use of personal protective equipment (according to the risk of splashes or other contact with infected materials), safe injection practices and safe burial practices.
Health-care workers caring for patients with suspected or confirmed Ebola virus should apply, in addition to standard precautions, other infection control measures to avoid any exposure to the patient’s blood and body fluids and direct unprotected contact with the possibly contaminated environment. When in close contact (within 1 metre) of patients with EBV, health-care workers should wear face protection (a face shield or a medical mask and goggles), a clean, non-sterile long-sleeved gown, and gloves (sterile gloves for some procedures).
Laboratory workers are also at risk. Samples taken from suspected human and animal Ebola cases for diagnosis should be handled by trained staff and processed in suitably equipped laboratories.

    WHO response

WHO provides expertise and documentation to support disease investigation and control.
Recommendations for infection control while providing care to patients with suspected or confirmed Ebola haemorrhagic fever are provided in: Interim infection control recommendations for care of patients with suspected or confirmed Filovirus (Ebola, Marburg) haemorrhagic fever, March 2008. This document is currently being updated.
WHO has created an aide–memoire on standard precautions in health care (currently being updated). Standard precautions are meant to reduce the risk of transmission of bloodborne and other pathogens. If universally applied, the precautions would help prevent most transmission through exposure to blood and body fluids.
Standard precautions are recommended in the care and treatment of all patients regardless of their perceived or confirmed infectious status. They include the basic level of infection control—hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment to avoid direct contact with blood and body fluids, prevention of needle stick and injuries from other sharp instruments, and a set of environmental controls.

    Culled from World Health Organisation

According to http://news.uk.msn.com/uk, The  latest outbreak is the largest in history and has centred on Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea. There has also been particular concern after the densely populated country of Nigeria reported what is thought to be its first death from the disease on Friday.
American Patrick Sawyer, 40, developed symptoms on board a flight from Liberia to Nigeria. Mr Sawyer, who was of Liberian descent, had been on his way home to the US. His sister has also died of the disease. Mr Sawyer is said to have made multiple flights from Liberia to Nigeria.
The disease can have a fatality rate of up to 90%, and there is no treatment or vaccine. According the World Health Organisation, Ebola is one of the world's most virulent diseases.
Infection comes from direct contact with the blood, body fluids and tissues of infected animals or people, and those most at risk of infection are health workers, family members and others in close contact with the sick and dead patients.
Infection has been documented through the handling of infected chimpanzees, gorillas, fruit bats, monkeys, forest antelope and porcupines found ill or dead or in the rainforest
Ebola is a severe acute viral illness, and symptoms include the sudden onset of fever, intense weakness, muscle pain, headache and a sore throat. This is followed by vomiting, diarrhoea, rash, impaired kidney and liver function, and in some cases, both internal and external bleeding.
It can take up to 21 days for symptoms to show after being infected.

    CommonWealth Games 2014

I haven't been religiously following the CommonWealth Games being held in Glasgow, Scotland this year. Besides, most of us are still recovering from the World Cup which only ended a few weeks ago.

I do however like watching it sometimes because, rather than watch footballers kick a ball around the pitch all day for months, we get to watch a variety of different sporting activities. You can pick and chose which one you want to watch.

So yesterday after work and after putting my angels to sleep, I flicked through and watched a bit of the games. Luckily for me, it was time for the 100m track race.

Suffice to say, a Nigerian lady won the race. Within seconds, my sister text me to ask if I had just watched the race. I felt a sense of pride watching her despite not personally knowing her. Her name is Blessing Okagbare. She won the race in only 10.85 seconds. How amazing. Something to be proud of. Something to be inspired by.

    Well done to her.

    To Love and Be Loved

There is no greater joy than the joy of loving and being loved.

With your children, you get that mutual and unconditional love for each other. There is a natural love that comes from them that surpasses all love you have ever felt or thought you felt.

I never knew what love really was until I had my first baby. She was and is indeed the love of my life. I didn't know I had so much love in me to give another person. Having her love in return was all I needed.

When I fell pregnant with my second daughter, I didn't know I had more love to give. But there it is. There she was. Another child. Another mini-mi. Soon after, I fell pregnant with my third. Who knew I had more love within me to give. The feeling of love completely overwhelms me every time I look at my children. Don't get me wrong, I don't stand there all day, staring at them and admiring all their qualities because if I tried, I could do it for days and nothing will get done. But I do steal many moments with them. To just enjoy who they are. They know they are each individually loved equally, unconditionally, immeasurably, wholeheartedly, enormously, extremely, exceedingly, exceptionally, powerfully, intensely, truthfully, naturally, genuinely, deeply, profoundly and completely.

They are my life, my world, my sunshine, the air that I breath and my all. And I bless God each and every day. For these beautiful gifts he has entrusted me with.

    Life is Good.

    NEVER AGAIN

NEVER AGAIN will I confess or focus on "I can't," because the Word says: "I can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens me." (Philippians 4:13)

NEVER AGAIN will I confess or focus on fear, because the Word says: "God has not given me a spirit of fear, but one of power, love and a sound mind." (2 Timothy 1:7)

NEVER AGAIN will I confess or focus on doubt and a lack of faith, because the Word says: "God has dealt to each one [every person] a measure of faith." (Romans 12:3)

NEVER AGAIN will I confess or focus on weakness, because the Word says: "The Lord is the strength of My life" (Psalm 27:1) and "The people that know their God shall be strong and carry out great exploits." (Daniel 11:32)

NEVER AGAIN will I confess or focus on the supremacy of Satan over my life, because the Word says: "Greater is He that is within me than he that is in the world." (1 John 4:4)

NEVER AGAIN will I confess or focus on defeat, because the Word says: "God always causes me to triumph in Jesus Christ." (2 Corinthians 2:14)

NEVER AGAIN will I confess or focus on a lack of wisdom, because the Word says: "Christ Jesus has become for me wisdom from God." (1 Corinthians 1:30) and "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him." (James 1:5)

NEVER AGAIN will I confess or focus on sickness, because the Word says: "With His stripes I am healed." (Isaiah 53:5) and Jesus "Himself took my infirmities and bore my sickness." (Matthew 8:17)

NEVER AGAIN will I confess or focus on bondage, because the Word says: "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." (2 Corinthians 3:17) and "My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit." (1 Corinthians 6:19)

NEVER AGAIN will I confess or focus on worries and frustration, because the Word says: I am "Casting all my cares upon Him who cares for me." (1 Peter 5:7)

NEVER AGAIN will I confess or focus on condemnation, because the Word says: "There is now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus." (Romans 8:1) I am in Christ, so therefore I am free from condemnation!

NEVER AGAIN will I confess or focus on loneliness, because the Word says: Jesus said, "I am with you always, even till the end of the age [forever]." (Matthew 28:20) and "I will never leave you, nor forsake you." (Hebrews 13:5)

NEVER AGAIN will I confess or focus on curses or bad luck, because the Word says: "Christ has redeemed me from the curse of the Law, being made a curse for me: that the blessings of Abraham might come upon the gentiles [that's me] through Jesus Christ: That we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith." (Galatians 3:13-14)

NEVER AGAIN will I confess or focus on discontent, because the Word says: "I have learned in whatever state (circumstances) I am, to be content." (Philippians 4:11)

NEVER AGAIN will I confess or focus on unworthiness, because the Word says: "He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." (2 Corinthians 5:21)

NEVER AGAIN will I confess or focus on confusion, because the Word says: "God is not the author of confusion, but of peace." (1 Corinthians 14:33) and "We have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God." (1 Corinthians 2:12)

NEVER AGAIN will I confess or focus on persecution, because the Word says: "If God be for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31)

NEVER AGAIN will I confess or focus on the domination of sin over my life, because the Word says: "The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death." (Romans 8:2)

NEVER AGAIN will I confess or focus on insecurity, because the Word says: "When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet. Do not be afraid of sudden terror, Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; For the LORD will be your confidence, And will keep your foot from being caught." (Proverbs 3:24-26)

NEVER AGAIN will I confess or focus on failure, because the Word says: "In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us." (Romans 8:37)

NEVER AGAIN will I confess or focus on frustration, because the Word says: "You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You." (Isaiah 26:3)

NEVER AGAIN will I confess or focus on fear of the future, because the Word says: "As it is written: "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him." But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit." (1 Cor 2:9-10)

NEVER AGAIN will I confess or focus on troubles, because the Word says: Jesus said, "In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)

    Verse of the Day

    Good afternoon everyone!

Today's verse is taken from the book of 2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV. It says

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

This is a scripture that most Christians are familiar with and I would like to briefly discuss it.

It says "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation". This to me speaks volumes. From this verse, I am made to believe that the very moment I was IN Christ Jesus, I am a new creation. In the eyes of God, I am like a new born baby. Free from sin, free from guilt. I am perfect in God's perfection. I am justified because Christ died on the cross for my sins. He loved me so much that he died irrespective of my flaws and shortcomings. The Bible teaches us that he died for us all. He died on the cross, so we will have eternal life. From the saints to the "worst" sinners, he died for everyone. Irrespective of our nationality, our ethnicity, our background, our gender, our age, our race. He did this because in the eyes of God, WE ARE ALL EQUAL. That's something special and amazing. To know the abundance of Christ's love. How he loved us beyond measure. Irrespective of who you think you are. When you are in Christ Jesus, you are a new creation. The latter part of that verse illustrates "Old things are passed away". All your sins have been washed away. You are no longer judged for your actions or omissions. Stop feeling guilty for whatever happened in the past. Stop making yourself feel less than what you actually are. You are now starting on a new clean slate. A new creation. This is your opportunity make a fresh start. You will need to let go of any emotional baggage. You will need to let go of any emotional or physical stress that is holding you back and holding you down. You need to release your mind to understand the grace God has made available to you.

So I want to use this platform to encourage someone, anyone. The same way I was encouraged this morning. It doesn't matter what has happened. You rest in the assurance that JESUS LOVES YOU. Only if you knew how much! Begin to see yourself the way God sees you. You will be amazed. No one has the right to judge you. Even Christ who died on the cross, does not judge you, He does not bully you or belittle you.  Use more energy to worship God. Praise him. Adore him. For all He has done. For all He is doing and all He is yet to do. Praise him for who He is. Who He has made you be. That new creation you are now. Give thanks because you ARE what God says you ARE. You have what God says you have. And you can do what God says you can do.

    Sunshine Sunshine!!!!!!

They say, if you want to strike up any conversation with any person living in Britain, talk about the weather. Talking about the weather can produce a decent 30 minute conversation because in the UK, the weather in unpredictable and people are constantly adapting to the new climate. No two days are ever the same. The weather always brings out a reaction in any individual.

So I decided to talk about the weather today because it is a lovely sunny summer's day. I am not one to watch the weather forecast every morning. I just let the weather move me. If it is cold, I wear a coat. If it is hot, I take it off. If it looks rainy, I hold an umbrella.... and so on and so forth. So today started off a little dry and windy. For a minute, I thought it will rain April showers. But it didn't. Lo and behold, the lovely sunshine. Exactly what I needed for a morning in the middle of July. There is something about the lovely weather that makes you feel good. Where it is not too hot and sticky, and it is not too cold and windy. Today's weather is just right. We have the right amount of breeze to keep you cool. Do you realise I say lovely a lot when referring to the sunny weather?
Ok, so why am I going on about the weather like this? Beats me! The lovely sunshine takes me to another world where I imagine all the exciting activities I would rather do than to be stuck in front of a computer in the office. The beach maybe. That would be great. To be surrounded by nothing but sun, sea, sand and of course a few palm trees. Looking outside and seeing so many people lounging in the park. Oh how I wish! Oh isn't that the beauty of life. Jealous? Very. Waking up to the sunshine is so exhilarating! It literally beats getting out of bed on a cold winter morning. There is something "feel good" about the weather today. The good thing about the summer sunshine is after work, the sun is still shining so if you did want to do anything spontaneous or planned, the weather will still wait until you finish work. This by far is the best time of the year. Forget Christmas and snow and Santa Clause.
Today I am motivated. To sit in a park, for 30 minutes, bask in the sun and read anything. Why? To soak up the little moments.

So, you see how we spent a good minute talking about the weather!

Taking a BOLD Step and Getting Disappointed along the Way

It took a very long time before I decided to start looking for another job. I felt comfortable and complacent in the job I am. One day I heard about a colleague who had been here doing the same job for over 10 years with no career progression and no real substantial salary increase. I thought to myself, it is so easy for one to fall in love with a routine. Doing the same thing day in day out. Going to the same place and being surrounded by the same colleagues turned friends. She must have a sense of belonging coupled with an overwhelming sense of loyalty to where she works. Hearing that and being here almost two years still didn't motivate me to start searching. "I will search when the time is right",  I kept telling myself. I am happy where I am. The people here are lovely. Despite knowing my worth and complaining for months about not getting a decent salary increase, I still didn't apply for another job. Not only am I comfortable where I am, my employer is understanding. He understands when I need to take the morning off for a doctor's appointment. He understands emergency hospital visits. He understands I will need to take time off for my children's Sports Day or Picnic Day or School Assembly. He understands when I run out of the office at 5pm to get home to my kids or attend Parent's consulation. So one can understand why it is easy to remain where you are most comfortable and at peace.

All I needed was one conversation with my Pastor, God bless her. She explained a simple principle to me. She said, "You can be happy where you are, and satisfied with your position because you are comfortable, and that is just fine. However, if you really want to take a step in that direction and move on, DO NOT be scared of the unknown. You will find that where you will go will be better than where you are. You will be happier. God wants us to increase and grow". It is up to us if we wish to stay in the same boat year in year out. But just as a baby grows, so as adults, we need to grow. Professionally, mentally and in every other way. There should be no limit to how much we grow or learn. To keep challenging ourselves and pushing our limits. Especially those of us who have not reached the peak of our professional career.

That was it. That was all I needed to hear. After praying concerning it, the fear I once had disappeared. I started getting excited. I sent my CV to an agency, they called me for an interview, we went through my work history and educational background, I did a few online tests (painful, lol) and soon after, I was being called for interviews with law firms. "They like your CV and they want to interview you", they said excitedly. Oh wow! How wonderful, I thought to myself.  I was excited yet nervous. The jitters came in and flooded me. How will they receive me? What if they don't like me? What if I am not good enough? What if I am not what they are looking for? How do I overcome these nerves? So many what ifs?

So for each interview, my husband took time out and followed me. He was my confidant, my pillar, my support system, my prayer partner. He would lift my spirits up and encourage me. "You will get it" he said. "If it is for you, you will get it. If you don't get it, then it was never meant to be. You are amazing. Only if they knew the greatness within you, they will offer you the job on the spot". How endearing he was and is. I had my suit, my husband(backbone), my skills, my experience and my confidence. I was ready.

    So here came the shocker!

Went for the first interview. After 2 days on the weekend and 3 excruciating weekdays, I got a response. "Sorry, they chose to go with someone else. Will get feed back and revert to you".

Went for the second interview - till today, I am still waiting on a decision. I already know what it was but a simple courtesy call would suffice.

Went for the third interview- on the same day, they called back. It was lovely to meet me. I am just what they are looking for. Intelligent and flexible. I will fit right into their team. Another wow moment from me. What an amazing news. Went back for the second interview the following week, and after two more painful days of waiting by my phone, I was told, I didn't get it. It was hard. Very hard. Because I looked forward to it. there was a light of hope. I was almost certain that this one was for me. That I didn't give up after the first two failed attempts and this one, was mine. All mine. So my hopes came crashing down. I asked God, why. Why would I be lifted just to come crashing down.

The very next morning, I stopped feeling sorry for myself. The tears were dry. It has now gone under "one of those life experiences". Nothing good comes easy. I will keep trying. I will probably keep getting knocked down and disappointed. I will keep applying until I get what is mine. All hope is not lost. God's word never fails and His word concerning me is, ALL things are working together for my good. Not some things. All things. Whether I get a new job or I don't. It is all working together for my good. My experiences make me. I am an excellent work in progress.

Gearing up for the next interview! Wish me luck!
(When I do get another job, I will share interview skills and tips that I have learnt along the way. If it WILL work for me, it will work for ANYONE).

    Letting Go

Life in general presents its own challenges. Life in itself is a journey.
Our environment and what/who we surround ourselves with on a daily basis, irrespective of what we tell ourselves, does affect our whole being. If you continually surround yourself with negative thoughts, negative ideas and negative people, your entire outlook on life will be negative. Ever heard "she is a product of her environment"? Especially when referring to a particular individual who was brought up in a bad environment and subsequently became just like the people in that environment? That is because she saw what was around her, be it good or bad, and decided to conform. Usually in such environments, the good look weird/awkward, the bad becomes the norm and the outrageous they say  is "one of those things, such is life". I totally disagree with such attitude and perspective because there are obviously a lot of people who see the environment they are in and chose to be bold, be different and make a change, for themselves. Although that is great, I do also appreciate that it is rare.
Now, looking at the here and now, there comes a time and a place in one's life when we need to take a step away from ourselves. Just three steps backwards and look in to your life. Look at what other people see. Look at your life from a different perspective. Are you where you want to be? Is there any room to grow in any area of your life? Only you know yourself, so you are the only judge and your own jury. Look at what area needs tweaking, what area needs improving, what area needs to be changed and sometimes, who we need to let go of.
Now that's a tricky one. How do you let go of someone who, although they are lovely and nice, yet, there is something quite not right with your relationship with that person. Maybe the relationship is one sided where you are the only one giving and investing time into that relationship for it to grow. Now this can be any form of relationship and I am focussing on our relationships with our friends or family. Yes, I said family. Especially when you have a toxic family. Sometimes they are your worst mental influence because they are constantly around you, subconsciously putting you down. Most people we invite into our lives make an impact and they could be individuals who are either related to us or who we meet along our journey in life be it through school, work, mutual acquaintances etc. Now I am not alienating the importance of a strong family unit. Most of us need family around us. In some countries especially here in the United Kingdom, the family unit is not appreciated enough. Only during Christmas (maybe). Having said that, I understand that the reason for the breakdown in communication between family members is just due to the fact that everyone is busy. Busy working. So we live to work, and work to live.
Family is everything regardless of the issues they encounter so lets not be ignorant of that or get carried away. This is about letting go of people who don't add value to your life. Letting go of people who bring nothing but pain, misery and confusion. Where your mind is constantly unsettled. Where every conversation you have turns into an argument for no reason. Sometimes we have to let some people go in order to free our mind.

At times, you need to let go of people who do not fit into who you are now. You might have changed and who you are now is not who you were a few years ago. The only constant thing in life is change. The world is changing. People change. We change. You change.  There are 6billion people in the world. You can chose not to be lonely. Life is a choice. Every decision we make affects our future. If we chose to keep negative people/thoughts/ideas in our lives, we can't get anything positive out of life. We will get the same results, stay in the same position we were years ago and never improve.  Our associations sometimes reflects this.
We are to be happy in life. Your happiness and peace of mind is your first priority. What are your priorities? What makes you happy? What choices did you make last year? What choices are you implementing this year?

Henry Ford once said "Life is a series of experiences, each one of which makes us bigger, even though sometimes it is hard to realize this. For the world was built to develop character, and we must learn that the setbacks and grieves which we endure help us in our marching onward". So we must keep marching forward and upward in life. Sometimes, by taking off some negative weight that has been holding us back and bringing us down. Take off the excess weight and negative energy feel free within yourself.

Life is beautiful. There is so much good and positive things to explore in life even on a rainy day. According to Scott Hamilton, "The only disability in life is a bad attitude". When you are constantly grumpy and moody and never seeing the good in anything or anyone, that's a challenge you need to deal with yourself and overcome. Let go of any negativity. Let go of your bad attitude. Look outside the box. There is a lot more to life than what you can see. Let go of every negativity. Be positive. Close your eyes for one moment and DREAM BIG.
The easiest and most straightforward motto I try to live by is:
Life is simple. Don't you dare complicate it.
Learn to Live, Laugh and Love..... all the way!
