"Do people still eat on the table anymore? Who has a table big enough for all those dishes?"
For example, with all the plates on the table, "Who is doing all the washing up? Looks like unnecessary dish washing?"
"What does table manners actually mean? If we're talking about manners for a minute, can we talk about not bringing the phone to the table?"
"Maybe we should just be happy as long as people chew with their mouth closed."
Table manners are the rules of etiquette used while eating, which may also include the appropriate use of utensils. Different cultures observe different rules for table manners. Each family or group sets its own standards for how strictly these rules are to be enforced.
It says proper use of utensils while eating not the formal dinner place setting.
Place settings do not make good table manners. Elbows off the table, chewing with your mouth closed, not blowing your nose at the table, saying please and thank you during and after a meal instead of belching and just leaving the table when you are through, etc., all make up good table manners.
It's an easy life for me. Unless is a formal dinner for example I am hosting a Christmas dinner or a birthday dinner or a wedding or I'm simply entertaining non-family members or friends, I'll stick with the informal place settings thank you very much!
xoxo
