Some celebrities have thick skin. Over time, social media has given these celebrities a platform to connect with their fans on a personal level. What it has also done is made the celebrities vulnerable to their enemies/haters. It does affect some, like it would a regular person. The difference is most of these haters hide behind their computers to spew negative words on the celebrity. In real life, when you have real enemies, you know them. You see them. They have usually become a part of your life. Sometimes they were friend turned enemy.
Having thick skin for me means looking in the face of your 'enemy' or 'oppressor', squinting your eyes, tilting your head to the left and smiling. Yes that's right. Smiling. Smiling even beyond all that hate you know they have for you. Forgive them even before they have asked to be forgiven. Show love when they show hate. You are tough but you have to remain soft. Make sure your skin is thick and your heart remains tender.
