Well, counting sheep doesn't work anymore. It used to be the method parents tell a child when they just can't fall asleep. Fast forward 20 years later when you have real life issues, counting sheep doesn't cut it. Besides, you really don't want to dream about 500 sheep either.
Here is my little list of other ways you can apply to aid you to fall asleep. It may work and if it doesn't at least you got sleepy trying. Just keep an open mind and remember - What works for some might not work for others. Here we go:-
1. Turn your bedroom into a Sleep Only Zone. Avoid going in there to do anything else but sleep until your better sleeping patterns resume. So when your eyes see your bed, your mind is automatically reminded that it is now time to fall asleep not read a book for example.
2. Avoid napping during the day. Sometimes this is a contributing factor to you not sleeping on time at night. Keep busy. Jump up and down if you are not busy. Occupy yourself with work and if you are not working, try other activities. There must be a Zumba workshop going on near you.
3. Have a set bed time schedule for yourself. Establish a bed time routine for yourself so you prepare your mind to understand that it is bed time. Be it anything from a shower to a book to bed. Knkw what you are doing with yourself the hour before you are to sleep. Know what time you want to go to bed and stick to it. Over time, your body will get used to going to bed and waking up at a certain time.
4. Turn off all the lights when you are going to bed. If you don't like it pitch black, use a little dim light. If it can work on little babies, you can trick your mind to help you sleep. The point of this is to make sure that you know, your body knows and your mind knows that it is time to sleep.
5. When you lie down, think about nothing. That's right. Nothing at all. Once your head hits the pillow, free your mind from any baggage of the day or in your life. Now is not the time. Deal with any issues you have in the morning. Think those thoughts when you are awake, when you have a clear head and you are well rested. Don't think about anything. Sleeping becomes so hard when you can't stop thinking. So no more thinking. Start sleeping.
So that's my list (again).
Hope this helps you as it has helped me.
Be Inspired
